He arrived out of the blue.  Clearly, he was at home on a soccer pitch. He was a bit of an enigma.  His name gave memory of another large state. He was fast, very fast.  He had a strong foot, could see an open alley and loved to score a goal. He seemed taller when he took a run down the wing.

He was soft-spoken and a leader.  He coached players young and old, using his teaching talents on and off the pitch.  Despite his busy schedule Sam accepted responsibility as a team captain. He recruited players experienced and inexperienced. He made them a team.

His gentle humor and passion will be missed.  We all wish Sam and his family well in their move to Oregon.  You will always be welcome on any Helena pitch.
